Bridging the Digital Divide – Our Social Responsibility
How many people live in Japan?
Quite a lot—about as many as in France and Italy combined. But here’s another number: It’s the same as the number of children in Africa who are out of school.
Globally, that number reaches 250 million—and it’s growing every day.
E-learning sounds like the perfect solution. But only for those who have access. In East Africa alone, over 75% of people are offline. The digital divide is not just a statistic—it’s a daily reality that deepens inequalities, leaving millions of children behind.
So, what can we do about it?
At STARWAVES, we believe education should reach every child, no matter where they are. That’s why we’re using digital radio to deliver lessons—free, accessible, and independent of internet infrastructure.
Join us in making education truly inclusive.
How We Make It Work – Overcoming the Digital Divide with DRM
The challenge is clear: Bringing education to millions without internet access. That’s where DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) comes in.
Unlike traditional solutions, DRM uses shortwave radio to transmit digital content across vast distances. A single DRM transmitter can cover entire regions—no cables, no satellites, no costly infrastructure. Our receivers act as local Wi-Fi hotspots, allowing students to access lessons on any smart device—without needing internet access.
This is how we bring education to the most remote and underserved communities—reliably, affordably, and at scale.
Where We Are Making a Difference
🌍 Namibia – Building an alliance of organizations to support the Gama and Herero communities in their path toward healing, settlement, and overcoming the trauma of colonial history.
📡 Benin – Transforming rural education with digital radio, vocational training, and local service stations, ensuring thousands of students gain access to quality learning.
📻 The Gambia – Assisting the DRM Consortium in launching their first DRM Classroom, proving that E-learning without the internet is possible.
🚀 Sudan (and beyond) – Where even World Bank and UNESCO struggle, we see opportunity. Our goal: Reaching the most vulnerable populations with education—no matter how remote, no matter the challenge.
Education for All – No Exceptions. No Excuses.
Our mission is simple but ambitious: If we can broadcast a radio signal, we can deliver education. DRM gives us the power to reach even the most forgotten people on the planet.
